The Making of the MDRS Pack - Puzzling Places Dev Chat #2

Recently, we started hosting Puzzling Places "Dev Chats" where for major updates and DLC's, we turn on our cameras, stream in our Discord server, and show & tell what we've been working on! We also record the session and upload it to Youtube for all to watch.

These Dev Chats are a great way to get a peak behind the curtain to learn about how we are developing Puzzling Places - and not to mention, get introduced to the people making the game!

Our the first Dev Chat was all about the Repacker Update v1.1 covering things like, how we prioritize feature development and what pain points we're trying to solve.

This week's Dev Chat is all about the "making of the MDRS Pack" - our first DLC puzzle pack! Puzzlemaker Azad Balabanian joins Audio Designer Pierre-Marie Blind to discuss:

  • The story of the MDRS
  • How we 3D scanned the MDRS
  • The amount of work we put into "cleaning up" the 3D scans
  • How we approach audio design for puzzles
  • How the sound effects are layered to create an immersive environment
  • and lastly, a Question and Answer (Q&A) session with our Discord community that was watching us live!

If you'd like to watch these Dev Chats live as well as participate in the Q&A, we'll send out a push notification through Discord whenever we go live. We don't have a set schedule but we're planning on hosting a Dev Chat at least once a month. There is also a limitation with Discord where only 25 people can watch the session live, so hopefully down the line, this limitation can be lifted. Otherwise, these sessions will always be accessible via Youtube.

We hope you enjoy watching and listening to us talk about the Puzzling Places! Looking forward to sharing more with you soon! Let us know if you have specific questions you'd like to ask either in Discord or in the Youtube comments for next time.
