Banjara Costume
- Location: Hampi, India
- Scan by: Malopolska`s Virtual Museums
The costume of the Banjara people, consisting of over a dozen elements, comes from the village of Hampi in India, in the state of Karnataka.
The costume is displayed on a mannequin as part of the permanent exhibition The Roma: History and Culture, which has been presented at the Ethnographic Museum in Tarnów since 1990. It illustrates one of the concepts of the Indian origin of the Romani, which connects them with the ancestors of the Banjaras. Despite the doubts surrounding this theory that have been reported since the 1990s, it is still promoted by some Romani scientists and journalists. - Muzea.malopolska.pl
