End of Quest 1 Support for Puzzling Places - March 2024

You might have seen Meta and other developers announcing the end of Quest 1 support over the last few months. Sadly, we're in the same boat for Puzzling Places. Starting on March 6, 2024, we'll be discontinuing official support for Quest 1.

Why?

Meta has made it clear that future versions of their development tools (SDKs) will not support Quest 1. This effectively locks us into the last compatible version of the game for that platform. We've been holding off on updating to this unsupported SDK version for as long as we can, but we expect that we'll need to make the switch in early 2024.

Until March 6th, 2024

Don't worry, we're not going dark just yet! You can continue playing and expect new features and DLCs to keep coming for Quest 1, 2, and Pro (and even Quest 3, when it arrives).

Also, stay tuned for a major feature update next month!

What Happens After March 6, 2024

Can I Still Play? Absolutely. You'll still be able to play the last supported version of Puzzling Places and its DLCs on Quest 1.

Can I Still Buy the Game and DLCs? Yes, any DLCs released before March 6 will still be available. However, the Monthly Puzzle Pack coming out on March 7 won't be for Quest 1 users.

Note: If you're a Puzzle Pass subscriber, you'll continue to have access to the full library of DLC's that are available to Quest 1 players, but will not have acesss to new DLC's released from March 2024 and onwards.

What Won't Work Anymore? No new feature or content updates will be released for Quest 1 past the March 2024 cut-off date. This includes changes or fixes in versions that require a newer SDK or firmware incompatible with Quest 1.

As Meta is also limiting the support of social features on Quest past 2024, any social features that we release for Puzzling Places might also have limited functionality on Quest 1's past March 6th, 2024. We'll have more details to share about this in the near future.

The Short Version

Starting March 2024, you can keep playing the last compatible version on Quest 1, but don't expect any new updates, features, or Puzzle Packs.

We're really sad to say goodbye to our Quest 1 community, but we hope this post clarifies what you can expect. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to us via email or Discord.

Happy Puzzling!
